Chiropractic care in Matraville

Solana Health offers chiropractic treatment for neck pain, back pain, headaches, sciatica and sports injuries at Shop 1, 448 Bunnerong Road, Matraville. Angelo Marketos is a registered chiropractor who has been practising since 2011.

Chiropractic at Solana Health is hands-on care for muscles, joints and the spine. Every course of care starts with an assessment, and treatment is chosen to suit you, which may include spinal adjustments, mobilisation, soft tissue techniques, dry needling and exercise advice.

What chiropractic care involves

Chiropractors are registered health practitioners who assess, diagnose and manage musculoskeletal conditions, particularly those affecting the spine, and the way they affect your day-to-day movement. In Australia, chiropractors complete five years of university study and are regulated by the Chiropractic Board of Australia through AHPRA.

Angelo takes a conservative, hands-on approach. Treatment may include spinal adjustments (manipulation), joint mobilisation, soft tissue work, dry needling and specific exercises to do between visits. Techniques are matched to your presentation, comfort and preferences, and are explained before they're used.

Conditions we commonly see

  • Lower back pain and stiffness
  • Neck pain and whiplash-type injuries
  • Headaches related to neck tension
  • Sciatica and leg pain of spinal origin
  • Postural strain from desk and screen work
  • Shoulder, rib and mid-back complaints
  • Sports and gym injuries
  • Knee and ankle sprains and strains
  • Work-related injuries, including WorkCover and CTP claims
  • Ongoing joint pain in older adults

If your presentation needs imaging, a GP review or a different practitioner, Angelo will tell you and help arrange it. Chiropractic care is not a substitute for medical treatment of underlying disease.

Your first visit

Before you arrive

Book online or by phone. If you have relevant scans, reports or a GP care plan, bring them or email them to hello@solanahealth.com.au beforehand. Wear clothing you can move comfortably in.

In the room

Angelo takes a detailed history and then assesses how you move: posture, range of motion, joint and muscle testing and, where relevant, neurological screening. He explains what he found in plain terms and what he recommends.

Treatment and plan

Where appropriate, treatment starts the same day. You leave with a clear plan: what we're doing, roughly how many visits to expect, and what you can do at home to help. Progress is reviewed at each visit and the plan changes if you're not improving as expected.

Chiropractic questions, answered

Do I need a referral to see a chiropractor at Solana Health?

No. You can book directly online or by phone. A GP referral is only needed if you want to use a Medicare Chronic Condition Management Plan (previously called an EPC or CDM plan) for part of your care.

What happens at my first chiropractic appointment?

Your first visit includes a discussion of your health history and current concern, a physical and movement assessment, and, where appropriate, treatment on the day. Angelo explains what he found and agrees a plan with you before anything else happens. Allow around 45 minutes.

Can I claim chiropractic on my private health insurance?

Yes, if your extras cover includes chiropractic. We have HICAPS, so you can claim on the spot and pay only the gap.

Does chiropractic treatment hurt?

Most people find treatment comfortable. Some techniques involve a quick, controlled movement of a joint, and mild soreness for a day or so afterwards is normal. Angelo talks you through each technique before using it, and you can ask for an alternative approach at any time.

How many visits will I need?

It depends on the problem, how long you've had it and your goals. After the first assessment Angelo gives you an honest estimate and reviews progress at each visit rather than locking you into a long plan.

What should I wear?

Comfortable clothing you can move in. Gowns and towels are available if needed.
